Ulysses (Clothbound Classic)

Author(s): James Joyce

Classics

Set in Dublin, Ulysses tells the story of a day in the life of Leopold Bloom in Dublin (16 June 1904). The title of the work references the fact that James Joyce draws heavily on Homer's epic poem, Odyssey, in the work, creating parallels between Bloom and Ulysses (Odysseus), Molly Bloom and Penelope (Ulysses' wife) and Stephen Daedalus and Telemarchus. Ulysses is considered to be one of the great examples of the modernist novel.

Over the years since its publication, first in serial form and then as acomplete work in 1922, it has drawn much attention, both controversial and favourable. Nowadays, it is considered to be one of the greatest literary works ever written, hailed for its humour and great characters.
