Once upon a time there was a frog who lived at the bottom of a well. To the frog, this well where he'd lived all his life was the whole world. Then one day the well runs dry and the bugs disappear, and the hungry frog must hop to the top of the well to see what he can of the end of the world. Conquering his fear, he peers out and what does he see? Trees, flowers, meadows, marshes, and all kinds of end-of-the-world creatures! Entranced, the little frog ventures forth to find out more about the world outside his world. Alvin Tresselt (1916-2000) was a children's author whose books have sold over a million copies. His book White Snow, Bright Snow, illustrated by Roger Duvoisin, won a Caldecott Medal in 1948. Roger Duvoisin (1900-1980) is the author of more than forty books, and collaborated with many writers, including Alvin Tresselt, with whom he won a Caldecott Award for White Snow, Bright Snow and the Caldecott Honor Award for Hide and Seek Fog. He is best known for his book Petunia.
